This is my rationale of sorts:
There are many reasons why I personally chose CutCake for this project.
My main reason being that depression and self harm is so common in our every day lives! And yet still nobody does anything about it. No one has enough courage to address it, especially the idea of self harm, and therefore it just doesn't have as much emphasis as it should have.
I first was introduced to the world of YouTube by my younger sister, Rebecca, earlier this year. At first I thought it was kind of silly because she would sit on the internet for goodness knows how long every day, and I had no one idea what she was doing!
So, I decided one night, that I would give it a go, by watching one of my now favourite YouTubers Crabstickz aka Chris Kendall's videos. You can check him out in the links below!
And it turns out, they are really funny! And there are so many YouTube vloggers out there!
danisnotonfire, amazingphil, kickthepj, lukeisnotsexy, emmablackery just to name a few.
But one that stood out to me was BriBryontour.
BriBry's videos are immensely uplifting! His video series "Things to do before you die" seriously is the epitome of "why not!" So I began to follow him on twitter and tumblr, and found out that he had formed his own charity. I watched the videos "To people who are depressed parts 1 and 2" and felt totally inspired! We were given this awareness raising project for university, and I automatically thought of Bri and CutCake.
He is an inspiration young man, and has a great deal of courage to develop his own charity! Which is one reason why I have chosen this charity. It is developing, and as Bri has expressed to me, it can be hard to get a small charity onto it's feet without help. So, I thought by selling his CutCake bands I would be making a small impact on not only his life and charity, but the life of others as well!
As I mentioned before, self harm and depression is so common among young people, and I personally have known two people in my life who have suffered from this condition, and it is absolutely awful. I hated to see them feel so alone and hopeless, and wanted to do something about it! As such, my second reason to chose CutCake came about!
Finally, I feel it is important that we don't only focus on the larger issues of life such as poverty, or world hunger. These issues are very serious, and I am in no way trying to down grade them, but it is so important that we address issues close to us, that affect those around us, especially something that if we put our minds to it- we can fix!
That's just the short of why I chose CutCake!
